Index Card A Day No.24
Doodled while listening to the children read to me. JG is reading Hating Alison Ashley in preparation for studying the play of the book in English this semester. CJ is reading the first of the Harry Potter books. I had a bit of a fight on my hands to get them started on the books. Neither of them are what one might call avid readers - something which is very frustrating to me as I was a bit of a bookworm as a child and still always have a book on the go now. I just don't see them lost in a story in the same way. It's just a rush to get through the story in monotone, and I frequently have to get them to slow down and make sense of what they're reading, to find the voices of the characters, to make the scene come alive. Each to their own eh!?
Oh, the inspiration today is drom the May/June edition of Selvedge Magazine and an article on the St Jude's Gallery in the UK. This is from a fabric pattern which detailed wheat ears and poppies - a classic English rural scene rendered in doodling!

I loved looking back over your earlier cards...I really like your flower drawings...look at Paul Klee's garden drawings you might like them!
I love this card...it looks very folk art. I'm in Dawn's doodle class too...I made my tape journal today.
